Tennis & Golf

Our closest neighbour, just 400m away at the end of the drive, is the delightful 9-hole golf course - Golf des Roucous- created and run by Georges and Nadine Finance. They welcome players of all or no ability and many an experienced player has found this one of the most challenging courses they have come across.

There is a hard tennis court at the club that can be rented by the hour and tennis rackets to borrow at the house. Light lunches are available at the clubhouse. Visit Golf des Roucous for more information.

Walking

The area is a mecca for walkers with networks of long distance walking routes traversing the countryside linking to the pilgrim route to Santiago di Compostella in northern Spain.  The house is well stocked with walking maps and walking sticks. For information on the UNESCO World Heritage site pilgrim route to Santiago di Compostela, passing close to Souquet Haut, see the UNESCO website. It's fun to walk sections of this route, perhaps between Castelnau-Montratier and Montcuq, or further afield if you are more adventurous. For tailored guided walking tours, contact our friend and neighbour, Jamie Tamlyn at The Walking Party.

For horse riders there are various places locally to find horses for hire.

Markets

The area is famous for its producers markets and you will find there are many to choose from!

The largest local market is in Cahors, 30 minutes north, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  However, there are other smaller markets in Castelnau-Montratier and Montcuq, 4kms and 10kms respectively. During the summer months there are many weekly Fete des Repas in the local villages where you can buy dinner from stalls run by local producers and then eat at long tables in the square, usually with live music and dancing.

Rivers and canals

Le Souquet is close three exceptional rivers - the Lot and Célé (to the north) and Aveyron. We highly recommended these for wild swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and boating. Our favourite places are listed in the guest book avaibale at the house. The Canal Latéral à la Garonne (to the south) also offers wonderful opportunities for boating, cycling and walking. We particularly recommend hiring canoes and kayaks at Bouzies on the Lot or at Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val on the Aveyron.

Cycling

The countryside is perfect for cyclists and we keep 2 hybrid cycles at the property. Other cycles, including electric and road bikes, can be hired and delivered to the house. For those who prefer not to be challenged by too many hills, hire cycles at Golfech (40 minutes) and cycle under the plane trees along the Canal Latéral à la Garonne.

Go-Karting

There is a great go-karting track close to Junction 58 on the A20 autoroute (20 mins from the house).

Ping Pong & Pétanque

The house is equipped with a ping pong table, bats and balls. Plus there are boules sets that can be used in the floodlit pool barn - an excellent after dinner activity!
